Whirlybird Screen Printing Press
The year was 1991, and Gary is setting up a screen on the NEW 4-color printer, or “whirlybird” as we called it. Here he is trying it out for the first time. We were learning as we went along. Gary even had black hair back then!
Screen Printing 102
The screen printing process, done properly, requires the right equipment, like this 4-color manual printer, as well as good screens with tight mesh, the right inks, and even good squeegees, the tool printers use to push the ink through the screens to print images onto shirts. Like using any new tool for the first time, we had to learn the best ways to set up the screens on the press to get the best results. With some trial and error, we were soon printing thousands of shirts a week with our new whirlybird press.
