The Bubble

Soon after we started the business, the original Gariel Screen Printing building was bursting at the seams, and we needed to expand our space. We put up the blue tarp you see in the pictures and moved some of our whirlybird manual print stations outside under it. This worked fine from spring to fall, but when winter rolled in, we had to put plastic on all sides to keep out some of the cold. We nicknamed that space “the bubble.”  Eventually we replaced the blue tarp with a roof extension.

See all the boxes?

UPS always dropped off the boxes outside on the lawn. We had to carry every box to the second floor of the print shop every day! We were young then, and did it without complaint.  It was good exercise!

Making screens

See the picture of Gary making a screen? He was probably stapling the mesh onto the wooden frame. We still make our screens to this day – only now we use aluminum frames because they give us better results with our printing than wooden frames.

If you remember picking up your shirts under from the bubble, tell us about it in the comments. We’d love to hear your memories of our early days!

If you have any projects going on now, contact us HERE – we’d love to work with you again!
